How To Interview Top Talent

If you want to land top talent for your organisation, you must consider the dynamics of your interview process.

I’ve spoken about this topic before, but it seems that there’s a number of companies and organisations that have reverted back to type as they believe that the hiring market has tipped in their favour lately.
My colleague Jennifer Gaster recently spoke about some of the reasons why businesses are struggling to attract and hire the best talent.
And one of the things increasingly happening is the number of processes that even passive candidates are being drawn into.
So, this means you need to impress those candidates early in the hiring process.
What can you do to ensure that your interview process inspires and excites potential new colleagues?
Number one, plan the process properly.
Nobody wants to be involved in a poorly executed or elongated interview process that can be brand damaging for your business as well.
Number two, get the dynamics right.
Good interviews will be a 50/50 open exchange between the interviewer and the interviewee, and candidates will be assessing you as much as you’ll be assessing them.
And number three, sell the opportunity early in the process.
Talk to candidates about the vision for the business, how their role will contribute to the mission.
Talk about the company values and, really importantly, demonstrate how they’re not just words on the reception wall.
Discuss the business and personal milestones that will need to be crossed to be indicators of success.
The worst-case scenario is you’re going to sell an opportunity to someone you don’t hire, but you will create a brand advocate.
But, as a word of caution, don’t over-promise.
One of the quickest ways to lose new employees is for them to find out in the first few weeks that you lied to them during the interview process.
I hope that’s given you something to think about if you’re hiring at the moment and if you found the tips useful or insightful, please give the video a like or comment or share it with your networks.
